Red One has finally been released, and while the film has gotten a mixed reception from viewers, fans of Red One's Krampus need to check out this twisted modern Christmas classic next. Krampus has been the sole part of Red One that has been universally acclaimed, with the 2024 comedy's take on the classic character from holiday folklore being unique. The makeup, personality, and comedy of Red One's Krampus makes the villain one of the highlights of the film, and for fans looking for more Krampus, there is an even better place to look.

In Red One, Callum Drift and Jack O'Malley have to track down Santa Claus after he is kidnapped by an unknown antagonist. Thus, the duo decides to look in the most obvious place: the realm of Krampus. In the Red One universe, Krampus is the estranged brother of Santa Claus, with the duo having a history that has led to Krampus despising Santa. This makes Krampus one of the antagonistic forces in Red One, but this is also what makes him so fun. Krampus brings a fantastic energy to Red One, with most fans of the movie wanting even more of him.

For Red One fans looking for more Krampus screentime, the best place to go is 2015's Krampus movie. 2015's Krampus is a horror comedy that follows a family at Christmastime who, after their son loses his Christmas spirit, is attacked by the monster from holiday folklore. Krampus uses various Christmas-themed monstrosities to assault the home, with the campy tone of Krampus being reminiscent of the Evil Dead movies. Krampus stars Adam Driver, Toni Collette, and David Koechner, meaning that it delivers laughs in a similar way that Red One does.

Who Is Red One Even For?
The Rock's latest movie, Red One, has underperformed with critics and at the box office. Who was it aiming its marketing toward to begin with?

Although Krampus wasn't a massive hit when it was first released, the film has since gained a cult following, with Krampus having a dedicated fanbase that is pushing for the movie to become a holiday classic. While there are a lot of low-budget Christmas horror movies that use Krampus as a monster, 2015's Krampus blends incredibly talented actors with its uniquely comedic tone to make a movie that stands out from the crowd, with it being the perfect next pick for viewers looking for another movie after Red One.
How Red One's Krampus Compares To The 2015 Version
It Isn't Nearly As Accurate
Although both Red One and Krampus feature adaptations of the Krampus character, they handle him in incredibly different ways. Red One's Krampus is incredibly comedic, with him acting as a side character who is mostly there to deliver mean-spirited moments of levity. While the horns, fur, and tail are reminiscent of the traditional Krampus design, his muscular and more humanoid look allows him to better fit into the action-packed world of Red One. On top of that, this Krampus seems to be the king of an entire realm, something that is unique to Red One's version.

The Krampus that is seen in the 2015 film, however, is far more accurate to the original folklore. The monster in Krampus is more of a deity than a character, with his power level and mysterious motives making him seem like a much more magical creature. This Krampus doesn't make jokes. In fact, he doesn't even talk. This allows Krampus to be more horrifying in a way that better lines up with his original incarnation, creating a more accurate version of the Christmastime nightmare.
Krampus Viewers Need To Check Out The Naughty Cut For The Definitive Krampus Experience
But Both Versions Are Still Great
✕ Remove Ads
2015's Krampus is great, but for a viewer who has never seen the film before, the theatrical cut isn't the best version. 2015's Krampus is rated PG-13, and while it is a horror movie, it is fairly tame. However, 2021 saw the release of Krampus: The Naughty Cut, an unrated version of the film that adds in a few extra minutes of swearing, scares, and violence. Although there are only a few changes, Krampus: The Naughty Cut is definitely the better version of Krampus.

However, younger audience members of viewers who want something more similar to Red One may want to stick to the PG-13 Krampus cut. It is still a great movie and can provide a lot of the charm and fun that Krampus brings to the table in Red One.
